Fur Care Tip #4 Worn Linings

If your fur coat is very long and you find yourself wearing out the bottom of the lining this tip is for you. Rather than having the entire lining replaced at the cost of $350 to $500 just have your furrier run a piece of matching grosgrain ribbon along the bottom of the lining (cost of about $150) this should give your lining many more years of wear. The grosgrain ribbon actually wears better than the lining.

We do take furs on consignmnet at a 50/50 split. When they are sold you are paid 50% of the selling price. We do not take coats needing TLC. They must be in good condition. If you have any further questions don’t hesitate to call 630-323-1840. You may see the type of furs we accept and how they are priced on our web site. Thank you and do not hesitate to contact me with any further questions.

I bought a fur on Ebay that only needed the lining replaced. When I got it..I saw it has 2 tears in the skin of the fur itself on the top edge of the stole. Can this be repaired? I need to contact a furrier in the southern Detroit, MI area…any suggestions?? Appreciate your help and advice. Thankyou so much! Mel

Mel- I am so sorryy for the delay in answering. I am sorry I do not know any furriers in Michigan. Fur stoles are usually from the 1950’s and are starting to dry out. There is nothing that can be done to reverse the dryness, annual storage and cleaning will slow down the aging process. I would suggest that you just draw the tears together and then cover the stitches with the fur. I only suggest this for items that are very old (over 40 years old). If you have any questions don’t hesitate to phone me at 630-323-1840
